The Yeasayer show at First Avenue is less than a week away and even though it's been sold out for a while now, Ticket King still has some tickets left!! Friday evening I went to the Mos Def show at First Avenue and had a blast! The show started a little late but once it got going, it was great! Jay Electronica opened for him. His style sort of reminded me of the well-respected rapper Nas, another one of my favorites. After Jay Electronica performed, I stepped outside for a few minutes and was lucky enough to see Mos Def walk out of his tour bus and go into the side entrance at First Avenue! He had his head down with a hood on but I still recognized him right away. When Mos Def finally came on stage, the crowd went wild! He began his performance playing these huge bongo type drums and played an awesome show for a good hour and a half. He performed a couple classic songs but most of them were newer. I really enjoyed the reggae part of his performance, which I'd never heard him do before. It was a nice change! I'm very happy with the way the show turned out and would definitely go see him again! I also will be sure to get my First Avenue tickets from Ticket King again since they were so reasonably priced and so convenient to buy.

Mos Def began his music career in 1994 with a group called Urban Thermo Dynamics before going solo in 1996. Shortly after that, Mos Def and Talib Kweli formed the group Black Star. Mos Def has also been acting since he was 14, with his most notable acting role before his music career being Bill Cosby's sidekick on the short-lived detective show, The Cosby Mysteries. In 1997, he also had a small role alongside Michael Jackson in his short film and music video "Ghosts."
I'll be heading to First Avenue tonight to check out Mos Def! He is MOS DEFinitely one of my favorite underground hip-hop artists. I have a feeling this will be an amazing show! Mos Def has a pretty distinct style in his lyrics that I can't help but enjoy listening to. He's worked with so many other very talented artists and has made some awesome collaborations. It's also my boyfriend's birthday tomorrow and he's probably as much of a Mos Def fan as I am. Since neither of us have seen him before I think it would be pretty foolish if we missed our chance to tonight. I'll be sure to post a review after the show!
